Anamur travel guide: Mamure Castle, Anemurium and banana groves
Anamur is a coastal district at the western tip of Mersin, about 1 hour from Ulu Resort Hotel along the coastal road. With its historic castles, ancient city, long sandy beaches and banana groves, it is ideal for a day trip.
Mamure Castle
Rising on the seashore east of Anamur, Mamure Castle is one of the best-preserved medieval castles in Anatolia. Its origins go back to the Roman period, and it took its present form through repairs in different eras.
You can walk along the walls, look out over the Mediterranean from the towers and see the remains of the historic mosque inside the castle.
The ancient city of Anemurium
Anemurium, on Cape Anamur, is an impressive ancient city spread along the shore. With its baths, theatre and large necropolis (burial ground), it is one of the most interesting archaeological sites in the region.
Cape Anamur is also the southernmost point of Anatolia.
